GM Projects Strong Earnings, Improved Cash Flow in 2019

In 2019, despite a diminishing car market, GM expects the overall U.S. market to remain strong, projecting total industry sales in the low 17-million range. The company will benefit from a full year of volume from GM’s all-new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light-duty full-size pickups. The trucks have contributed to retail market share growth in the light- duty pickup segment every month since August, with average transaction prices that have surpassed those of key competitors. Tim Lee Named Chairman of GM China

Tim Lee is the new Chairman of GM China with responsibility for 12 joint ventures, two wholly owned foreign enterprises and more than 55,000 employees. Stefan Jacoby, most recently the ousted CEO of Volvo Cars, will become Executive Vice President Consolidated International Operations, leading the company’s operations in more than 100 countries and territories in Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe and the Middle East. General Motors Sells 300,000 Vehicles in China – All Time Record

GM has led sales in China for eight consecutive years, but during 2012 it just barely stayed as Number One at 2.84 million vehicles because the VW Group, China’s Number Two automaker, sold 2.81 million vehicles, a +24.5% increase compared to 2011. GM sold 194,699 vehicles in the United States in January, up 16% compared with a year ago, which was slightly ahead of an overall auto market that grew 14%. Continue reading

General Motors and its joint ventures sold a record 2.84 million vehicles in China during 2012, an increase of 11% from 2011 in the world’s largest auto market, which is now tracking at 19.1 million or more units annually. GM Sets Annual Sales Record in China with a Record November

With record domestic Chinese deliveries of 260,018 vehicles in November, GM’s sales in 2012 reached 2,593,642 units in the first 11 months, the most ever. GM China Expands Advanced Technical Center in Shanghai

Increasingly, sophisticated engineering and development work once done in the U.S. is being shifted to China. Last August, GM began fabricating and testing prototype battery cells and complete systems at the ATC. SAIC-GM-Wuling to Build Third China Complex in Ford’s Chongqing

Chongqing of course is the original home of Ford China and now contains a sprawling manufacturing center. Changan Ford Mazda Automobile (CFMA) last August broke ground for a third assembly plant, Chongqing 3, in China. CFMA has also signed a letter of intent with the Municipality of Chongqing to explore expanding its research and engineering capability in Chongqing. Continue reading

GM to Increase Electric Vehicle Development in China

General Motors is increasing the development of electrified vehicles in China, the company’s senior technology leader said during a speech at the FISITA 2012 World Automotive Congress in Beijing. In September 2011, GM China opened the Advanced Materials Lab in Shanghai. The facility, which is part of the GM China’s sprawling Advanced Technical Center, is engaged in research on battery technology and lightweight materials.

This is the result of a deal between SAIC Motor Corporation and GM for the co-development of a new electric vehicle architecture in China. Communist Chinese industrial policy requires local partners as a condition of access to the market. Continue reading

General Motors and its communist government required joint ventures sold 251,812 vehicles in China, a record for the month of October. Sales were up 14% on an annual basis, as GM’s major brands in China reached new highs for the month in the world’s largest auto market. GM is the largest automaker in the Chinese market. GM and SAIC Open the Largest Proving Grounds in China

General Motors and its Chinese communist government dictated partners – SAIC, Shanghai GM and the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center – have opened China’s largest proving grounds with 37 miles or 60 kilometers of test roads. The 5.67-square-kilometer (2.18 square miles) Guangde Proving Ground in Guangde County, Anhui, represents an investment of RMB 1.6 billion ($253 million). Shanghai GM and PATAC are managing the proving ground’s operation, which includes support facilities to test 67 different driving conditions

It is the latest transfer of white-collar professional salaried jobs from the U.S. taxpayer controlled company to the businesses operating in the world’s largest auto market, which is strictly regulated by the Chinese Central government in a successful jobs creation program that requires local partners and onshore investment as the price of doing business.
