BMW R nineT Scrambler – Old Look, Modern Pricing

AutoInformed - 2017 BMW R nineT ScramblerBMW Motorrad USA today announced the pricing of the all-new, yet retro R nineT Scrambler starts at $13,000. R nineT Scrambler has a classic flat-twin boxer engine. This, arguably, has characterized the design of the bikes for more than nine decades. It is also  is said to have what Bimmer riders call the unique sound of BMW motorcycles.

With deep-tread tires, a raised exhaust, extended spring travel and an upright seating position, Scramblers offered riders during the 1950s to 1970s not just  road use, but also off-road capability. It was the gasoline-powered equivalent of today’s human-powered mountain bikes.

The new air/oil-cooled boxer engine has a capacity of 1,170 cc, delivering an output of 110 horsepower (81 kW) at 7,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 86 lb.-ft. (116 Nm) at 6,000 rpm. This is not exactly a high-revving engine, but the output is impressive.

R nineT Scrambler draws on the look of a long gone era. It blends current technology with classic design and a customization options, ranging from Motorrad original accessories to aftermarket offerings from custom designers.

Old and New

R nineT Scrambler is finished in monolith metallic matt, which is also found on the fuel tank and headlamp housing. The bike’s classic look is accented by black components,  such as the frame, swing arm, wheels, telescopic forks and gaiters, and engine housing, as well as the front fender and the tail panel of the optional single seat.
