Volkswagen, Audi and Bentley will import and distribute vehicles through the Jacksonville, FL port, with plans of transporting approximately 550,000 units in the next five years, the Volkswagen Group of America announced today. VWGoA said it plans on transporting 100,000 cars within one year, creating 100 jobs.
Currently the German automaker is using Houston, San Diego, Davisville and Brunswick, the former port in the south, Port Canaveral and Tampa. Presumably, all these ports were also considered for the consolidation.
The selection of Jaxport adds to VWGoA’s 260,000-square-foot parts distribution facility in Jacksonville that opened in 2009, and services 118 Volkswagen and Audi dealers in the Southeastern U.S. Volkswagen Group plans to invest more than $7 billion in North America between 2014-2018.
