Victory for Tommy Rustad (N) in the FIA European Rallycross Championship.
Volkswagen dominated the Rally Germany. Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia’s (F/F) are the first duo to win the rally in a German car in the current WRC era. The Wolfsburg-based manufacturer – put in business by the allies after WW2 – also finished second and third with Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) and Andreas Mikkelsen/Ola Fløene (N/N).
The victories speak for themselves. Up until now the ‘home event’ had been the only rally that Volkswagen did not win. Simple mathematics, – this year’s world rally champion will once again be at the wheel of a Polo R WRC.
Rally enthusiasts will have to wait until the next round of the world championship in Australia to find out which of the three factory works duos comes out on top. Having claimed victory number 30 of their career, Ogier/Ingrassia now have a chance of wrapping up their third Drivers’ and Co-Drivers’ championships in a row – pending with rallies still to come.
That is why they run the races.
Volkswagen has a chance at the Manufacturers’ Championship.

He is past president of The International Motor Press Assn, the Detroit Press Club, founding member and first President of the Automotive Press Assn. Above all, decades after he first drove a car, Zino still revels in the sound of the exhaust as the throttle is blipped during a downshift and the driver’s rush that occurs when the entry, apex and exit points of a turn are smoothly and swiftly crossed. It’s the beginning of a perfect lap.
AutoInformed has an editorial philosophy that loves transportation machines of all kinds while promoting critical thinking about the future use of cars and trucks.
Zino builds AutoInformed from his background in automotive journalism starting at Hearst Publishing in New York City on Motor and MotorTech Magazines and car testing where he reviewed hundreds of vehicles in his decade-long stint as the Detroit Bureau Chief of Road & Track magazine. Zino has also worked in Europe, and Asia – now the largest automotive market in the world with China at its center.
