Corolla Hatchback is powered by a 2.0-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder DOHC 16-valve engine. Equipped with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), it is rated by Toyota at 169 horsepower and 151 lb.-ft. torque. The manufacturer-estimated SE fuel economy ratings are 32 mpg city, 41 mpg highway, 35 mpg combined.

There is a standard “Dynamic Shift” continuously variable transmission (CVT) that has an actual launch gear for off-the-line acceleration before the CVT’s pulley system takes over. Combined with enhanced sport mode tuning, all grades come standard with paddle shifters that allow drivers to engage 10 pre-set ratios. Drivers can select NORMAL, ECO and SPORT drive modes.
The Hatchback is on the TNGA-C platform. It has a low center of gravity and relatively sophisticated tuning of the MacPherson® strut front and multi-link rear suspensions.
