Audi Withdraws Silverstone Elimination Protest. Porsche, Toyota Move Up in Endurance Racing Standings

Audi has chosen not to lodge an appeal against its disqualification at the 6 Hours of Silverstone. The R18 of Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer was found illegal.

With a curt statement Audi has withdrawn the protest it filed when after six hours of tight endurance racing in Silverstone the Audi victory was tossed because the thickness of the front skid block on the leading #7 Audi had worn too much.

“We accept the exclusion from the classification and, in the interest of the sport, jointly look ahead,” said head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich.

“It is our job to avoid increased wear – we accept this responsibility. We made our decision in the interest of the sport and hope that the eight remaining world championship rounds will be similarly thrilling as the season opener,” Ullrich said.

The decision means that Porsche’s driving crew of Neel Jani, Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb takes the full 25 points from Silverstone. The Toyota trio of Kamui Kobayashi, Stephane Sarrazin and Mike Conway moved up to second.

Audi car #7 drivers Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer/ and Benoît Tréluyer are pointless.
