The Ferrari / Takata recall in North America is predicted to start at the end of July.

Ferrari North America is recalling 2015 model year 458 Italia, 458 Spider, 458 Speciale, 458 Speciale A, California T, FF, F12 Berlinetta, and LaFerrari cars. These Ferrari models – more than 800 – may have a driver side air bag module that was improperly assembled by Takata. This safety defect can cause the air bag to deploy in a rotated orientation thereby failing crash tests for not providing adequate protection. A stop sale is also in place.

This defect comes from “insufficient gluing” of the leather on the driver’s side airbag cover and the possible rotated installation of the driver’s airbag cushion in the airbag module. The potential for a defect was first discovered during out of position (OOP) tests with a 458 Italia model for validation of a new steering column.

FNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front Driver’s Side Air Bag Module, free of charge as is required by the U.S. Code. The recall is expected to begin on July 30, 2015. Owners may contact Ferrari customer service at 1-866-551-2828. Ferrari’s number for this recall is 57.

It’s the beginning of a perfect lap. AutoInformed has an editorial philosophy that loves transportation machines of all kinds while promoting critical thinking about the future use of cars and trucks. Zino builds AutoInformed from his background in automotive journalism starting at Hearst Publishing in New York City on Motor and MotorTech Magazines and car testing where he reviewed hundreds of vehicles in his decade-long stint as the Detroit Bureau Chief of Road & Track magazine.
