Ford Announces Three Safety Recalls

Ford Motor Company is issuing three safety recalls in North America. Fuel tank fires, extended trailer brake stopping distances and defective child restraint anchors are involved. Ford said it is not aware of any accidents, injuries or fires related to these safety and quality defects.

On 129,000 2009-2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles in so-called corrosion states* and provinces in North America the reinforcement brackets where the fuel tank is mounted to the vehicle may rust. This safety defect can result in fuel odors, fuel leaks or a check engine light. A fuel leak potentially could result in a fire. Dealers will inspect the fuel tank and either repair or replace it at no cost to the customer as required by U.S. and Canadian safety regulations

Ford is issuing a safety compliance recall for approximately 1,900 2016 Ford Mustang vehicles in North America after some restraint parts could have been damaged during shipping from the supplier prior to installation in the vehicle. If damaged during shipping, the affected restraint parts might not conform to the requirements of FMVSS 209 for seat belt assembly performance or to FMVSS 225 regarding child restraint anchor systems.

Ford is also recalling 72 2016 Ford E-Series cutaway and chassis cab vehicles in North America for a potential issue with the trailer brake controller. In these vehicles, the trailer brakes do not engage when the driver presses the brake pedal. While towing a trailer, drivers can manually apply the trailer brakes. This safety defect could result in extended braking distance.

*Corrosion Areas: The Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossovers being recalled are currently registered or were originally sold in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.
