GM Sales Up 4% in First Half of 2013. Chevrolet Sets Record

The mid-size Chevrolet Colorado – all new in 2012 elsewhere – has single, extended and crew-cab body styles. The five-year, $2 billion program was developed across five continents for customers in 60 markets. It finally debuts in the U.S. next year.

GM sold more than 4.85 million vehicles in the first half of 2013, an increase of under 4% compared to the same period in 2012. The question now is will GM remain Number Two in Global Auto sales when current sales leader Toyota Motor reports sales results for the period. GM in a rising global market increased its share only 0.1% year-over-year, while Toyota has been rebounding at a much higher rate. During Q1 of 2013, Toyota with its 2.43 million in sales outsold GM at 2.36 million. GM held off a closing Number Three Volkswagen Group during the first half of 2013, though, as it bested VW’s 4.7 million units (+6%) from the Wolfsburg-based automaker. 

GM first half 2013 sales in North America were up nearly more than 7% nearly 7% throughout its International Operations. GM achieved a sales record in China with a 10.6% increase to 1,567,392 units. (Read AutoInformed on GM Maintains Number One Spot in China over VW Group)

Chevrolet sold a record 2.5 million vehicles around the world in the first six months of 2013, and increase of 1.4% compared to the same period in 2012. Chevrolet continues to face strong competition from the Toyota and Volkswagen brands, which are more established globally.
