Kia Corporation posted total global vehicle sales of 249,734 units in April 2021 based on wholesales deliveries. This was a 78% increase compared to the same month last year. In keeping with a long-standing industry trend, Kia’s range of SUV models led the company’s global sales, with the Sportage and Seltos SUV models selling 27,955 and 26,864 units respectively. The K3 compact sedan sold 22,591 units.

Sales recovered in the U.S. led by Telluride and Seltos SUV models, which also helped this year’s strong global results. Kia recorded its second best-ever monthly sales in the U.S., with five Kia models setting sales records this April helped by a competent Federal Government taking demonstrably successful steps to address the Covid pandemic.

Kia recorded sales of 51,128 units in Korea, a 1.5% increase from April 2020. Sales of the Carnival minivan and K5 sedan supported the growth of Kia in its home market. Sales outside of Korea jumped 120.9 percent from a year earlier to 198,606 units, steered by the Sportage and Seltos SUVs, and the Rio subcompact sedan. “This sharp increase was caused by recovering global automotive demand that slowed last year amid the COVID-19 outbreak, as well as temporary closures of global plants which hurt vehicle supply during April 2020,” Kia said. Above all, decades after he first drove a car, Zino still revels in the sound of the exhaust as the throttle is blipped during a downshift and the driver’s rush that occurs when the entry, apex and exit points of a turn are smoothly and swiftly crossed. It’s the beginning of a perfect lap. AutoInformed has an editorial philosophy that loves transportation machines of all kinds while promoting critical thinking about the future use of cars and trucks. Zino builds AutoInformed from his background in automotive journalism starting at Hearst Publishing in New York City on Motor and MotorTech Magazines and car testing where he reviewed hundreds of vehicles in his decade-long stint as the Detroit Bureau Chief of Road & Track magazine.
