Mazda FY 2021 Financial Results – Net Income -81%

 Ken Zino of AutoInformed.com on Mazda Fiscal Year 2021 Financial ResultsMazda Motor Corp.’s global sales volume from April 2020 through March 2021 decreased 9.3% year-on-year because of decreased sales in Europe and other regions. China and the US posted ~7% gains.

Global sales of key models in the period:

  • CX-5: 374,502 units (down 9.9% year-on-year)
  • MAZDA3: 243,137 units (down 21.3%)
  • CX-30: 192,636 units (up 162.9%)

However, operating profit at Mazda  more than tripled in Q4 as sales rebounded from the Covid collapse and it slashed marketing spending. While announcing the earnings, the automaker also said personnel changes will promote Jeffrey Guyton as its new CEO for Mazda Motor of America, subject to approval at the June 24 annual shareholders’ meeting.

Guyton’s role includes oversight of Mazda North American Operations based in Irvine, Calif.; Mazda Canada Inc., based in Toronto; Mazda Colombia, based in Bogota; and Mazda Motors de Mexico, based in Mexico City. Additionally, Guyton’s responsibilities include vehicle production in Salamanca, Mexico and Huntsville, Alabama, where Mazda will manufacture an all-new CUV designed exclusively for the North American market.

Guyton’s predecessor in this role is Masahiro Moro, who will assume the newly created global position of Chief Communications Officer at Mazda’s headquarters in Hiroshima, Japan. Moro will oversee public relations, investor relations, corporate social responsibility, human resources, government affairs and other administrative functions.
