Low gas prices and insatiable demand for sport utility vehicles makes the timing right for introduction of Nissan’s flagship vehicle, the Armada, which joins the SUV/crossover lineup of the Pathfinder, Murano and Rogue later this year. This was the first vehicle launch of the 2016 Chicago Auto Show for an SUV that will be made in Japan with engines supplied by a U.S. plant.
Armada comes equipped with a new 390-horsepower 5.6-liter V8 and 7-speed automatic transmission. Claimed to be the ideal family hauling wagon, Armada has such safety features as predictive forward collision warning, backup collision notice and Nissan’s “Around View” monitor with moving object detection.
The Armada is based on the global Patrol platform. “The Nissan Patrol nameplate goes back to 1951 and its reputation as a global workhorse is unparalleled – whether as a frequent support vehicle to the United Nations’ peace keeping efforts or as a three-time class winner of the Paris-Dakar Rally,” said Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America.
“While the new Armada is intended primarily for family adventures here in North America, Armada owners will benefit from its underpinnings as a strong, durable and authentic full-size SUV with ruggedness to spare.”
