U.S. drivers who own a vehicle that is more than five-years old are emotionally attached to their cars and trucks. The majority of “aging vehicle Do-It-Yourselfers” are purchasing parts and accessories online according to eBay research.
“Various studies have shown that people are holding on to their cars and trucks longer than before, and what we’re seeing is a result of a personal attachment to their vehicles,” said Jay Hanson, eBay’s Vice President of Merchandising of Hard Goods, the source of the assertion.
The greates number of people emotionally invested are Millennials (18-34 years old), who show the strongest attachment to their vehicles compared to other generations.
The most popular names among all vehicle owners are:
- Betsy
- Ol’ Faithful/Ol’ Reliable
- Baby
- Bessie
- Bob
- Buddy
Car colors are also popular names, with Red, Silver and Blue also topping the list.
Brand Winners of the popularity contest are:
- Toyota Corollas and Honda Accords are the most popular aging car choices among all Millennials
- The most reliable vehicles are the Honda Accord and Toyota Corolla, according to all respondents
