Well, here’s the Chevrolet Colorado GearOn without Gear on – Use your imagination?
After huge blowouts and major news announcements at NAIAS in Detroit, automakers sometimes scramble to come up with some news for the Chicago Auto Show, which remains an important consumer venue. Such is the case of the 2015 Colorado GearOn Special Edition that makes its public debut Feb. 13-22 at CAS.
The Colorado GearOn package, it’s claimed, is designed with mounting accessories for bikes, kayaks, skis and stand-up paddle boards and a bed-mounted tent. It goes on sale this spring with a starting price of $31,250, gulp, on LT models in extended or crew cab versions with the long or short cargo bed and, yes, optional 4WD.
Many of the GearOn accessories can be mounted on upper rails, leaving room in the bed below for more stuff. You can also do this a la carte on other Colorado models.
The Colorado GearOn Special Edition includes the GearOn bars package, divider package and cargo tie-down rings. Additional GearOn accessories can be purchased separately and can be installed at the time of delivery, possibly with installation charges added. The cost of the accessories can be included in monthly vehicle payments, if they are chosen before taking delivery.
The Colorado GearOn Special Edition also includes:
• EZ Lift and Lower tailgate
• Off-road assist steps
• Gloss black 18-inch aluminum wheels
• Body-color grille
• Front and rear black Chevy bowtie emblems
• Front fog lamps
• Rear window defogger
• Remote start.
About Ken Zino
Ken Zino, editor and publisher of AutoInformed, is a versatile auto industry participant with global experience spanning decades in print and broadcast journalism, as well as social media. He has automobile testing, marketing, public relations and communications experience. He is past president of The International Motor Press Assn, the Detroit Press Club, founding member and first President of the Automotive Press Assn. He also brings an historical perspective while citing their contemporary relevance of the work of legendary auto writers such as Ken Purdy, Jim Dunne or Jerry Flint, or writers such as Red Smith, Mark Twain, Thomas Jefferson – all to bring perspective to a chaotic automotive universe.
Above all, decades after he first drove a car, Zino still revels in the sound of the exhaust as the throttle is blipped during a downshift and the driver’s rush that occurs when the entry, apex and exit points of a turn are smoothly and swiftly crossed. It’s the beginning of a perfect lap.
AutoInformed has an editorial philosophy that loves transportation machines of all kinds while promoting critical thinking about the future use of cars and trucks.
Zino builds AutoInformed from his background in automotive journalism starting at Hearst Publishing in New York City on Motor and MotorTech Magazines and car testing where he reviewed hundreds of vehicles in his decade-long stint as the Detroit Bureau Chief of Road & Track magazine. Zino has also worked in Europe, and Asia – now the largest automotive market in the world with China at its center.
