BMW, Daimler Vans – including Sprinter Vans labeled Mercedes-Benz, Dodge and Freightliner – Ford, Honda, Acura, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler, Volkswagen and Audi have now expanded their Takata airbag recalls to include vehicles equipped with driver-side air bag inflators that Takata has declared defective.
An updated list of all makes, models and model years affected by Takata recalls is available here. Ford and BMW has made Vehicle Identification Numbers searchable through NHTSA’s VIN lookup tool so owners can enter their VIN and see if their vehicle is under recall. Honda, Volkswagen, and Mercedes-Benz will make affected VINs searchable in the coming days, and NHTSA will update its Takata recall microsite as those VINs become available.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing is recalling model year 2008-2010 Lexus SC vehicles, 2008 Toyota Corolla vehicles , 2008 Toyota Corolla Matrix vehicles, and 2008 Pontiac Vibe vehicles. “This is to address a safety defect in the passenger side frontal air bag inflator which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal air bag.”
