Volvo Recalls 308,000 Cars for Defective Seat belts

In a sweeping recall that covers 308,000 vehicles, Volvo Cars USA is recalling defective seat belts from model years 2008-2015. The steel cable that connects the seat belt to the front outboard seating positions may fatigue over time, causing the seat belt to not secure the occupant in the event of a crash. Volvo has known about the problem with the Autoliv supplied cable since 2016, but had trouble determining the cause it said in the required NHTSA filing.

Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seat belt anchor cable for both front seats. This recall is expected to begin August 25, 2020. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo’s number for this recall is R10029.
