C’est Voilà – Renault Trafic Hippie Caviar Hotel in Reality

Ken Zino of Auto Informed.com on all-new Renault Trafic Space Nomad

The concept is now reality.

As we said earlier this month, here’s comes the Hippie Caviar Hotel concept built from the new Renault Trafic van. It debuts at the 2021 Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf. It claims to be the world’s largest van and camper show. Renault Design says it “chose the new Trafic to imagine a nomadic life with all the space, comfort and modularity necessary for all journeys.” The photo of the real thing – a production Trafic Space Nomad – has just been released from Switzerland. “Renault’s ambition is to expand its nomadic range in Europe, in a market that has been exploding for the last 10 years. After a successful test in Switzerland, all-new Trafic Space Nomad extends its scope to freedom aficionados,” said Thierry Plantagenets, LCV Global Sales & Marketing Director, Renault Group.

As to the claims that a camper-van after repeated lock-downs can fill the urge to escape without accommodation constraints with the application of the sanitary restrictions related to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, which leads to a “stress-free life” – well maybe designers were smoking something. Here’s what was said of the concept: “Hippie Caviar Hotel is our take on the nomadic hotel concept, based on connected services.”

In 2020, after a successful trial on the Swiss market, Renault decided to extend the marketing of Space Nomad in Europe: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark and France. Inspired by New Trafic and transformed by Pilote, it is produced at Renault’s Sandouville plant and will be available in the network in early 2022. Available in two lengths, it offers four- and five-seat versions and a wide selection of engines, from 110 to 170 hp, with manual and automatic gearboxes (for the 150 and 170 hp engines). “All-new Trafic Space Nomad adapts to meet the diverse needs of its customers in search of freedom without the accommodation or parking constraints,” said Renault.

Ken Zino, editor and publisher of AutoInformed, is a versatile auto industry participant with global experience spanning decades in print and broadcast journalism, as well as social media. He has automobile testing, marketing, public relations and communications experience. He is past president of The International Motor Press Assn, the Detroit Press Club, founding member and first President of the Automotive Press Assn. He is a member of APA, IMPA and the Midwest Automotive Press Assn. Above all, decades after he first drove a car, Zino still revels in the sound of the exhaust as the throttle is blipped during a downshift and the driver’s rush that occurs when the entry, apex and exit points of a turn are smoothly and swiftly crossed. It’s the beginning of a perfect lap. AutoInformed has an editorial philosophy that loves transportation machines of all kinds while promoting critical thinking about the future use of cars and trucks. Zino builds AutoInformed from his background in automotive journalism starting at Hearst Publishing in New York City on Motor and MotorTech Magazines and car testing where he reviewed hundreds of vehicles in his decade-long stint as the Detroit Bureau Chief of Road & Track magazine. Zino has also worked in Europe, and Asia – now the largest automotive market in the world with China at its center.
