Upstart Chinese automaker Qoros Automotive Company has successfully defended it brand name against South Korean Kia in a German Court. A district court in Hamburg granted Qoros’ motion for a preliminary injunction against Kia Motors Corporation that bars Kia from using the name “Quoris” for motor vehicles in the European Union. The court found that coexistence of “Qoros” and “Quoris” in a car market would cause consumer confusion.
Kia who was caught earlier this month flouting U.S. law by falsifying EPA mileage test data by as much as 6 mpg had intended to market its Korean-built “Quoris” rear-wheel drive sedan as its flagship sedan. Kia could appeal the ruling. Thomas Oh, Kia’s Executive Vice President & COO of the International Business Division said, “The word ‘Quoris’ conveys solidity, luxury and high-technology, all resonating together as a chorus.
Qoros said it would continue legal efforts to protect its “unique and valuable trademark.”
Qoros Auto Company will debut a new compact or C-class sedan at next year’s Geneva Motor and Shanghais Motor Shows as the first step in what it claims buy generic lexapro will be a series of vehicles aimed at buyers in China, Europe and the Middle East.
This business plan, of course, is easily done by press release. However, the design, development, manufacturing and wholesaling of actual cars and light trucks sometimes is more difficult, occasionally thwarting even the best of established automakers.
Qoros is claiming a unique architecture that will allow for the quick rollout of a range of models and variants, including the introduction of hybrid and electric vehicles. New variants are expected to launch roughly every six months.
Qoros has financing from Chery Automobile and Israel Corporation, a holding company with an initial registered capital of RMB 3.4 billion, roughly $544 million. It has design and R&D centers in Munich, Graz and Shanghai. The headquarters is based in Changshu, Jiangsu Province. A plant as well as with an initial annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles and a maximum production capacity of 450,000 vehicles is under development.
