The best-selling model in the U.S. cannot be sold because of a safety recall on 2014 F-150 pickup trucks as a result of defective steering sensor that can lead to a total loss of steering control. Ford told NHTSA that it is expanding a previous recall because a sensor for the electronic power steering assist is improperly installed by supplier Nexteer.
As of June 24, 2014, of the 5, 675 F-150 models, about 260 have been delivered to customers globally, and the remainder are at dealerships or in transit to dealers. Ford is advising affected owners not to drive their vehicles and to contact their dealers immediately so the safety defect can be repaired. Dealers will supply rental cars and pickup the trucks at a customer’s location of choice. Returned F-Series trucks will have been washed, vacuumed and topped off with fuel.
Ford says it knows of “no accidents or injuries.”
