Ford Recalls – Three More in North America

AutoInformed.comFord Motor recalls 2015-2016 Ford Focus Electric cars, 2016 Ford F-150 and 2016 Ford Explorer trucks, and 2016 Ford Transit Connect for a variety of mechanical and electronic safety defects.

About 900 Focus Electric cars have a bad differential pinion shaft that can crack. This  would cause the vehicle to lose power without warning while driving. A bad pinion shaft can also stop the transmission park function from working without warning, increasing the risk of injury or a crash. Ford said is unaware of any accidents or injuries. Dealers will install a new transmission differential assembly equipped with a friction-reducing coating on both the pinion shaft and pinion gear bores at no cost to the customer, as required by law.

Driver Seat Back Welds

Ford is also issuing a safety recall for about 7,000 2016 Ford F-150 and 2016 Ford Explorer vehicles because of an “inadequate driver seat back weld.” It is possible the driver seat back may not adequately restrain an occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Dealers will inspect and replace, if needed, the driver seat backrest frame Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries.

Braking System

Ford recalls 608 2016 Ford Transit Connect vehicles to replace the brake hydraulic control unit. Reduced pump performance of the control unit may “decrease electronic stability control and related systems including roll stability control, anti-lock braking system, emergency brake assist, curve control, trailer sway control, traction control and hill start assist performance, without warning. Dealers will replace the brake hydraulic control unit. Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries. Dealers will replace the brake hydraulic control unit.
