Honda Recalls Expand Nationwide for Bad Takata Inflators

AutoInformed.comHonda now says that about 2.23 million Takata PSDI-5 driver front airbag inflators will require replacement in Honda and Acura vehicles in the U.S. even though no inflator ruptures have been reported in Honda or Acura vehicles. Takata inflators will be replaced with parts from an alternative supplier with repairs beginning in the Summer of 2016. Initially, the Takata recall started out as regional one.

With this new recall, ~8.51 million Honda and Acura vehicles have been or  are now  subject to replacement of a Takata driver and/or passenger front airbag inflator in the United States.

Owners of affected vehicles will be informed of the recall in an initial notification letter within 60 days. Once replacement parts become available, Honda will send a second notification letter to owners with instructions to pursue repair at their local authorized dealer.

The second round of notifications will prioritize older model year vehicles located in certain High Absolute Humidity regions* and will expand to other areas of the country as more replacement parts become available.
