Honda will take the wraps off the all-new 2015 Fit at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The third generation Japanese subcompact is already on sale in Japan and elsewhere, but will go into production in a newly added Mexican plant during 2014.
In essence, the Fit takes the place of the Civic, the car that put Honda on the map in the U.S. decades ago, but in subsequent generations grew so much larger that it is no longer a sub-compact. How’s this for an advertising line – At Honda we finally have a car that is the same size as the car that made us famous. (If the shoe fits…)
The North American version has minor powertrain and styling tweaks, and will no longer be production constrained since Fit is one of Honda’s most popular global cars with cumulative sales of 4.87 million units. The Fit is manufactured at ten locations around the world and sold in 123 countries.
At the luxury Acura brand, the Japanese automaker will debut a new mid-size sedan that will take the place of the TL. When the production TLX appears in the second half of next year, Acura will discontinue sales of the TSX model. The also ran luxury brand – Lexus clearly dominates the U.S. luxury market as the Japanese luxury brand even though Acura appeared here first – claims this will clarify its sedan lineup with a hierarchy of three models – the compact ILX, mid-size TLX sports sedan, and flagship RLX sedan.
