The Midwest Automotive Media Association (MAMA) today announced the seven category winners for MAMA’s Favorite Vehicle of 2024 award. Each winner is now a finalist for the overall title that will be voted on by the association’s 189 nationwide media members. AutoInformed is a long-standing member of MAMA. MAMA’s Favorites is a new award, an expansion of the association’s prior Family Vehicle of the Year and Luxury Family Vehicle of the Year awards. It was created to recognize the diversity of vehicles available and of interest to the readers, viewers, and listeners of MAMA’s membership base.
“With more than 100 new, redesigned, or refreshed vehicles MAMA members could drive during 2023, it was time to assess the breadth and depth of product at each event and for the year as a whole,” said Robert Duffer, MAMA President. “You could say MAMA loves all of her vehicles equally, but everyone knows there’s only one MAMA’s Favorite.”
All candidates for the awards were driven by MAMA members at one of the three drive events in 2023: The MAMA Spring Rally, MAMA’s Favorites Fall Fest, and Chicago Drives Electric. Voting after each event narrowed a lengthy candidate list of more than 100 eligible vehicles to only a select few finalists in each appropriate category. After a vote in November, the category winners for 2024 are:
- MAMA’s Favorite Family Vehicle: Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid MAX
- MAMA’s Favorite Luxury Vehicle: Genesis G90 3.5T E-Supercharger AWD
- MAMA’s Favorite Off-Roader: Jeep Wrangler Rubicon X 4xe
- MAMA’s Favorite Pickup Truck: Ford Maverick Tremor
- MAMA’s Favorite Performance Vehicle: Ford Mustang Dark Horse
- MAMA’s Favorite Affordable Vehicle: Chevrolet Trax
- MAMA’s Favorite Plug-In Vehicle: Hyundai IONIQ 6
Voting is now open for the overall MAMA’s Favorite Vehicle of 2024 award that will be announced at the 2024 Chicago Auto Show welcome breakfast, hosted by MAMA, on 8 February 2024.

About Ken Zino
Ken Zino, editor and publisher of AutoInformed, is a versatile auto industry participant with global experience spanning decades in print and broadcast journalism, as well as social media. He has automobile testing, marketing, public relations and communications experience. He is past president of The International Motor Press Assn, the Detroit Press Club, founding member and first President of the Automotive Press Assn. He is a member of APA, IMPA and the Midwest Automotive Press Assn.
He also brings an historical perspective while citing their contemporary relevance of the work of legendary auto writers such as Ken Purdy, Jim Dunne or Jerry Flint, or writers such as Red Smith, Mark Twain, Thomas Jefferson – all to bring perspective to a chaotic automotive universe.
Above all, decades after he first drove a car, Zino still revels in the sound of the exhaust as the throttle is blipped during a downshift and the driver’s rush that occurs when the entry, apex and exit points of a turn are smoothly and swiftly crossed. It’s the beginning of a perfect lap.
AutoInformed has an editorial philosophy that loves transportation machines of all kinds while promoting critical thinking about the future use of cars and trucks.
Zino builds AutoInformed from his background in automotive journalism starting at Hearst Publishing in New York City on Motor and MotorTech Magazines and car testing where he reviewed hundreds of vehicles in his decade-long stint as the Detroit Bureau Chief of Road & Track magazine. Zino has also worked in Europe, and Asia – now the largest automotive market in the world with China at its center.
