What was once unthinkable to German performance car makers continues today as two new versions of Japanese super-cars were announced. The 2023 Nissan GT-R is now on sale at elite US Nissan dealers with a starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $113,540. Toyota Gazoo Racing has also launched an updated GR Supra GT4* race car for the 2023 season with claimed enhanced braking, handling and engine performance. The Nissan 2023 GT-R Premium’s 3.8-liter DOHC twin-turbo V6 is rated at 565 horsepower and 467 lb.-ft. of torque, linked with a standard dual-clutch, paddle-shift 6-speed transmission and the so-called ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive system. Moreover, GT-R NISMO, $210,740, has the same turbochargers developed for the GT3 GT-R race car, increasing the engine’s output to 600 horsepower and 481 lb.-ft. of torque. * Starting with its first full racing season in 2020, more than 50 Toyota GR Supra GT4 cars have participated in races around the world. Customer have taken victories in 11 national and international GT4 championships. In August this year, the car celebrated its 50th class win in a major championship. The tile went to Masayoshi Oyama and Masayuki Ueda for Akiland Racing, in the Am class of GT World Challenge Asia at Sportsland Sugo in Japan.
Competition in the GT4 category is intense and development of the GR Supra GT4 has continued with an EVO update for the coming season. Orders for the GR Supra GT4 EVO starts today, 28 October 2022. An upgrade kit will be available to existing GR Supra GT4 customers. The GR Supra GT4 EVO will make its competitive debut in January 2023 at the 24 Hours of Daytona, the first round of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season. A ready-to-race GR Supra GT4 EVO will be priced at €186,000 (~$184,771) excluding taxes, customs and logistics fees. Toyota Gazoo Racing engineers have and will continue to provide track support to customer teams and drivers against entries from Aston Martin, BMW, Mercedes AMG, Porsche and Ferrari, among others.
