Buick is recalling 2012 model Regal sedans because a software change was not adequately tested and it made the parking lamps inoperative. In either the headlamp position or the parking light position, the so-called body control module would not turn on the lights as is required by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108.
General Motors is in the process of notifying owners to have their BCM reprogrammed by dealers. A stop ship on new Regal models is also in place until the software is corrected, GM said in the required filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Dealers will reprogram the computer free of charge as is required by law. GM will offer free shuttle or replacement transportation under its own recall policy.
