The Sting Ray interior has carbon fiber and aluminum trim, hand-wrapped leather materials, dual eight-inch configurable driver/infotainment screens, and two new seat choices.

Chevrolet revealed today some prices of the 2014 Stingray that goes on sale this summer, but held back the MSRP of the highest performing Corvettes that currently sell for more than $100,00. The Stingray coupe starts at $51,995, the Convertible sbegins at $56,995. Both prices include a $995 destination fee, but exclude taxes, title and license charges.

As shown at the North American International Auto Show, Stingray coupe with options is $73,360. “The Corvette Stingray delivers a combination of performance, design and technology that very few manufacturers can match, and none can even come close for $52,000,” said Chris Perry, vice president, Chevrolet marketing. Porsche  gets about a $30,000 premium for its famous 911 even though the base car has 100 fewer horsepower.

On racetracks, Corvette consistently beats the world’s most famous and expensive sports car manufacturers – Aston Martin, Ferrari and, yes, Porsche – with 86 wins (78 ALMS, 7 Le Mans and 1 Grand-Am) but  the ‘Vette does not have the cachet outside of North America to outsell the 911. The 2014 racing season is no exception with the Corvette beating Ferrari with a late pass at the 12 Hours of Sebring. (Read AutoInformed on Older C6R Corvette to Race in American Le Mans This Year)

The Corvette Stingray coupe and convertible will be offered in global markets starting in late 2013, with left-hand-drive models in Europe, the United Kingdom, the Middle East, Japan and Russia. Changes to Corvettes for export vary only in equipment required to meet market regulations, such as lighting, headlamp washers and outside mirrors. Sales of the Corvette outside of North America are currently minimal, and the lack of right-hand-drive model will not help here. In 2012 Corvette sales were only 14,132, a figure GM hopes to double with the new Stingray to pull even with 911’s annual sales volume.

For the record as shown at the North American International Auto Show, the Stingray coupe with the major options would be $73,360, including:

  • 3LT interior package, with leather-wrapped interior ($8,005)
  • Z51 Performance Package ($2,800)
  • Competition sports seats ($2,495)
  • Exposed-carbon-fiber roof panel ($1,995)
  • Magnetic Ride Control with Performance Traction Management ($1,795)
  • Dual-mode exhaust system ($1,195)
  • Carbon fiber interior trim ($995)
  • Suede, microfiber-wrapped upper interior trim ($995)
  • Red-painted calipers ($595)
  • Black-painted wheels ($495)

The Z51 Performance Package includes: high-performance gear ratios; transmission-cooling system; larger 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels and tires; larger, slotted rotors and brake-cooling ducts; electronic limited-slip differential and differential cooling system; unique chassis tuning; and available Magnetic Ride Control active-handling system with Performance Traction Management. Equipped with the Z51 package, the Corvette Stingray is capable of accelerating from 0–60 mph in under four seconds, and generate more than 1 g while cornering.
