Ford Recalls Electronic PRNDL for False Position Indication

Ford Motor is recalling Expedition, F-150 Mustang and Lincoln Navigator models because the electronically controlled gearshift indicator does not show the vehicle is in reverse increasing the risk of a crash.

In the required safety defect filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford said these vehicles might have a transmission range sensor that was calibrated out of specification for reverse gear leading to false indications or failed backup lights.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the transmission range sensor if needed, free of charge as is required by NHTSA regulations. The safety recall is expected to begin on 25 June2012. Owners may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.
