Ford says its Police Interceptor sedan and utility vehicles gained six points of share in 2015, according to latest Polk/IHS Automotive registration data. When they were introduced in 2012, the Explorer and Taurus based interceptors were designed to recover the sales lost when it cancelled the Fox platform that the Crown Victoria was based on.
Introduced in 2012, Police Interceptor Utility quickly became America’s best-selling police vehicle Ford now has a 61% market share through June 2015, a more than 20% gain from a self-inflicted wound. The Police Interceptor Utility is the only pursuit-rated midsize utility available to law enforcement and sedan and utility are the only pursuit-rated vehicles with standard all-wheel drive.
“Now, here we are three years later and we’re still gaining,” said Raj Sarkar, general marketing manager, Ford North American Fleet, Lease and Remarketing operations.
