Alex Palou added another win to his NTT IndyCar Series season, taking the victory at the rain-soaked Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix at Nashville Superspeedway. A downpour swept through Tennessee on Sunday evening, ending track drying at the Nashville Superspeedway from earlier storms. This forced an unusual postponement of the IndyCar race to 3 pm Monday, 20 July. Palou led 97 laps as he contributed to Chip Ganassi Racing’s 150th IndyCar victory.*
“I can’t believe it! I started P4, shuffled a little bit from back to front and then we were a bit lucky with a yellow and we went from P3 to P1. It was great, it was awesome. The car was awesome. I was super confident in the end, but it was a close battle with Josef [Josef Newgarden Team Penske Dallara/Chevrolet- AutoCrat] there for a little bit. Thank you to all the fans for sticking with us today, on the Monday. Thank you, Honda, for the amazing power we had today on track. And on to the next one,” said Palou.
The Spaniard from Barcelona followed Spain’s World Cup win with his fifth victory of the season, following previous wins at St. Petersburg, Barber, The Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach and the Detroit Grand Prix. Palou, the reigning champion and four-time NTT IndyCar Series champion now holds an 83-point margin in the championship fight as the Chip Ganassi Racing Honda driver goes for his fifth title in just six years. Paulo 83 points is more than a race’s worth of points over David Malukas in the series. (Click for Race Results) There are six races remaining this season.
The lightning and rain thwarted the series plan to have the World Cup final as the television lead in for the race on Sunday. The Nashville results have Honda leading rival engine maker Chevrolet in the manufacturers’ standings, 983-938. The 2026 NTT IndyCar Series now goes west for the OnlyBulls Grand Prix of Portland from Portland International Raceway on August 9th.
