FCA US has announced 2015-2016 Jeep Cherokee recalls because water can leak into the Power Liftgate Control Module and result in a high resistance short circuit that can lead to a fire. Almost 33,000 Jeep Cherokee SUVs are affected. This is the second recall for the problem. FCA said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this safety defect.
Dealers will inspect the module and connectors for corrosion, replacing the damaged components as necessary and install improved shields that protect liftgate control modules, and related components, from moisture. FCA has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler’s number for this recall is R67.
