“We have just reported the most successful July sales ever."
The BMW Group in July posted an increase of 7.6% in sales, the German automaker said in Munich this morning. A record total of 129,094 (2010 – 119,992) BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brand automobiles were sold worldwide last month. During the past seven months the number of deliveries climbed 17.9% to 962,468 vehicles (816,014).
BMW had strong result in the US, as the company delivered 11.7% more cars and SUVs at 26,120 (23,390). With 21,409 July sales of the BMW brand, BMW was the best-selling premium automobile brand in the US market, although incentive costs were rising to almost $3,000 a unit and Lexus was effectively shut out of the market because of earthquake shortages.
BMW again reported strong growth in China at 18,858 vehicles (13,852). In Germany, a total of 23,212 new BMW and Mini vehicles were registered in July, which the same as the previous year (23,397 / -0.8%). The slower pace BMW said could be attributed to line-up changes, including the changeover from the first generation BMW 1 Series to the second generation.
“We have just reported the most successful July sales ever and we are well on our way to achieving our recently announced target of over 1.6 million vehicles in 2011, the best ever sales result for the BMW Group,” said Ian Robertson, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Sales and Marketing.

About Ken Zino
Ken Zino, editor and publisher of AutoInformed, is a versatile auto industry participant with global experience spanning decades in print and broadcast journalism, as well as social media. He has automobile testing, marketing, public relations and communications experience. He is past president of The International Motor Press Assn, the Detroit Press Club, founding member and first President of the Automotive Press Assn. He also brings an historical perspective while citing their contemporary relevance of the work of legendary auto writers such as Ken Purdy, Jim Dunne or Jerry Flint, or writers such as Red Smith, Mark Twain, Thomas Jefferson – all to bring perspective to a chaotic automotive universe.
Above all, decades after he first drove a car, Zino still revels in the sound of the exhaust as the throttle is blipped during a downshift and the driver’s rush that occurs when the entry, apex and exit points of a turn are smoothly and swiftly crossed. It’s the beginning of a perfect lap.
AutoInformed has an editorial philosophy that loves transportation machines of all kinds while promoting critical thinking about the future use of cars and trucks.
Zino builds AutoInformed from his background in automotive journalism starting at Hearst Publishing in New York City on Motor and MotorTech Magazines and car testing where he reviewed hundreds of vehicles in his decade-long stint as the Detroit Bureau Chief of Road & Track magazine. Zino has also worked in Europe, and Asia – now the largest automotive market in the world with China at its center.
That’s good news for BMW. The automaker just continues to make consistent improvements in sales. Too bad Lexus was greatly affected by the earthquake phenomenon. I think BMW will continue to rise steadily this year too.
