Buick today revealed the 2024 Envista, a new nameplate in the fast-growing small SUV segment. In marketing speak, Envista has the cargo space and utility of an SUV, packaged inside sporty and sleek proportions typically found in a sedan. Translation – in the Alice in Wonderland world of automotive marketing, Humpty Dumpty eschews using the hatchback word, which for generations of Americans meant cheap front-wheel-drive transportation. German makers are long experienced on the widespread use of this redefinition.
Nonetheless, Envista will among the least expensive SUVs in the segment, starting at $23,4951 – Sport Touring starting at $25,1951 and Avenir starting at $29,6951. Buick calls it a premium crossover that is designed to attract migrating sedan owners, young professionals and small families. The 2024 Envista is projected to enter production next month with a summer on sale date. It’s an evolution of and variation of the Korean designed and built Chevrolet Trax. Envista will be built at GM’s Bupyeong plant in South Korea.

“Buick helped define the small SUV segment in 2012, and we’ve continued to make our offerings even more competitive since. The all-new Envista is going to shake up that segment once again,” said Duncan Aldred, global vice president, Buick-GMC.
Envista comes with a small 1.2-liter turbocharged engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. This is expected to be rated at 136 horsepower with 162 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s claimed that the engine’s turbocharger allows it to reach peak torque much faster and maintain that for a longer RPM range thereby “providing great responsiveness and a fun and engaging driving experience.”
“Compared to previous generations of our 1.2-liter turbo engine, this version is lighter and uses fewer parts, which reduces the overall vehicle weight, increases efficiency and creates nimble ride and handling,” said Scott McLane, lead development engineer, Buick Envista. Predicted is an EPA rating of 30 mpg combined.
With a relatively long wheelbase of 106 inches (183 inches overall length) and front-drive layout, Envista has more legroom than any prior Buick small SUV. The Envista’s so-called Ultrawide Infotainment Display has 19 diagonal inches of combined LCD screens with access to vehicle controls. As in the 2024 Encore GX, the Envista has an 11-inch-diagonal infotainment screen – the largest in the segment2 thus far.
Buick says, marching lockstep with other automakers, that the infotainment system has been optimized to provide an enhanced user interface design, voice recognition and multimedia applications, making driver interaction easier and more intuitive.
The 2024 Envista will come standard with the Buick Driver Confidence package3. This package includes six active safety and driver assistance technologies sincluding Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and IntelliBeam auto high-beams. A high-definition Rear Vision Camera is also standard. The Envista will also offer optional safety3 and driver assistance technologies such as Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
A 40/60-split folding second row seating allows for storage of items up to 7.5 feet long (diagonally). The Envista provides 20.7 cubic feet of room behind the rear seat and 42 cubic feet4 with the rear seats folded down. There’s an optional Power hatchback, err, Liftgate.
