BYD has New Grid Linked Energy Generation/Storage Gear

AutoInformed.com on BYD Showcases its “Fully Sustainable Power Solutions” at Solar Power InternationalBYD Company introduced new home solar energy generation and storage products that can be grid-linked at the 2016 Solar Power International held this week in Las Vegas. BYD’s “comprehensive renewable power proposition” was first launched at the 2016 Intersolar Europe in Munich last June. Visitors to SPI saw two types of BYD solar modules: The Multiple Busbar (MBB) and 4 Busbar modules with 60 or 72 cells. There were also several energy storage products, including 40-ft container ESS, miniHome ESS and the BYD B-BOX system. BYD claims to currently have more than 60% market share for frequency regulation energy storage in the U.S. BYD is the only company to make both photo-voltaic and energy storage products.

“Everyone has known for years that solar is the future. What we’re trying to do here is prove that with these energy storage solutions, it can also be the present,” said Micheal Austin, Vice President of BYD, who attended the conference.

BYD claims its “Energy + Solar = Zero Emissions” solutions aim to break through the traditional bottleneck of photo-voltaic power generation, so that PV projects meet more diverse markets and allow for new growth in the renewable energy industry.

The global PV industry has been developing rapidly, but there are remaining challenges in production capacity and reliability, as well as in market trends and regulations. During power production, BYD’s equipment is designed so that the energy generated through PV first goes into energy storage batteries. This resolves fluxes in energy flow and is said to improve distribution.

Solar Generation and Storage Isn’t New

The idea of combining solar PV generation with energy storage is not new, but BYD is the first to do so with an Iron-Phosphate battery. BYD claims its solution is able to provide the best possible value and experience to fulfill its customers solar and energy storage needs.

BYD, of course, operates several high-tech sectors including high-efficiency automobiles, electrified public transportation, environmentally-friendly energy storage, affordable solar power and information technology and original design manufacturing services.

As the world’s largest manufacturer of rechargeable batteries, BYD says its mission is to create “safer and more environmentally-friendly battery technologies.” This led to the development of the BYD Iron Phosphate (or “Fe”) Battery. This fire-safe, completely recyclable and long-cycle technology has become the core of their clean energy platform that has expanded into automobiles, buses, trucks, utility vehicles and energy storage facilities.
