Uwe Pichler-Necek today joins the Chinese subsidiary of Porsche Engineering*, an international technology service provider. He will take over as Managing Director on 1 July 2022. Pichler-Necek succeeds Kurt Schwaiger, who has headed up Porsche Engineering’s Chinese activities since 2015. Schwaiger is returning to Germany to retire after more than six years as Managing Director of Porsche Engineering in China.
The move in the totalitarian state comes as German automakers are scrambling to adopt to the disruptions caused by Russian totalitarian Vladimir Putin’s war against Ukraine rages on slaughtering civilians. German automakers are bearing the direct brunt of this war and scrambling to adjust to production and supply disruptions.
“We are delighted to have been able to recruit Uwe Pichler-Necek as our next Managing Director,” said Peter Schäfer, CEO of Porsche Engineering and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Chinese subsidiary. “With his broad local management experience in new and conventional vehicle technologies, he has the ideal background for this challenging task.”
Pichler-Necek was most recently responsible for development activities at FEV China as Executive Vice President for Engineering. Prior to that, he spent 14 years at Magna Steyr and Magna Powertrain, among other stations, in various senior management positions and at different locations, including China.
“I would like to express my sincere thanks to Kurt Schwaiger for his outstanding achievement,” Schäfer continued. “He has successfully built up the Shanghai location, broadened its technological scope and expanded its reach. Today, we have a first-class development team on site that knows the complex Chinese market in detail and develops China-specific solutions for Porsche and other OEMs.”

After a 20-year career at Porsche, Peter Schäfer, CEO of Porsche Engineering, is retiring. Schäfer played a key role in shaping the strategic direction and successful growth of the international technology service provider. His successor will be Markus-Christian Eberl.
“I am very pleased that we have been able to bring in Markus-Christian Eberl as the new Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche Engineering,” says Michael Steiner, Member of the Executive Board for Research and Development at Porsche AG and Chairman of the Shareholder’s Committee of Porsche Engineering. “He has proven technical expertise, is excellently networked, and knows modern development processes inside out. He therefore has the ideal qualifications for this challenging task.”
Markus-Christian Eberl (49) becomes Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche Engineering (CEO) from 1 June 2023. The current Vice President Technical Conformity at Porsche AG succeeds Peter Schäfer (63). Schäfer will retire effective 31 May 2023. In addition, Dirk Philipp (53) is appointed to the Executive Board of Porsche Engineering effective 1 January 2023. He takes over the position of Managing Director of Commerce/Chief Operating Officer (CFO/COO). Dirk Lappe (59) remains Managing Director of Technology (CTO). He has held this position since 2009.
