The hybrid-electric Honda Prelude Concept made its North American debut today at the Los Angeles Auto Show with the usual assertion that it represents a prelude, so to speak, to future electrified Honda models. This is weeks after its global debut at the Japan Mobility Show. Honda says it will make battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles represent 100% of its new vehicle sales by 2040. “Honda hybrid-electric models have been doing a great job of furthering our electrification strategy and now represent one-quarter of Honda sales in 2023,” said Gary Robinson, vice president Auto Planning and Strategy, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Displaying the hybrid Prelude Concept demonstrates our electrification strategy in a sporty and dynamic package.”

The two-door coupe makes its North American debut 45 years after the first-generation Prelude entered production in November 1978. The sports coupe remained in the Honda lineup for five-generations through the 2001 model year.

The Prelude Concept is displayed at the LA Auto Show through Nov. 26, alongside the 2024 Honda Prologue, the first all-electric Honda SUV, and the new Honda Motocompacto e-scooter, which went on sale earlier this month. The Prologue will begin arriving at Honda dealers early next year. It’s Honda’s first all-electric SUV. Following the Prologue, in 2025, a mid- to large-size EV model based on Honda’s own EV architecture will go on sale. He has automobile testing, marketing, public relations and communications experience. He is past president of The International Motor Press Assn, the Detroit Press Club, founding member and first President of the Automotive Press Assn. Above all, decades after he first drove a car, Zino still revels in the sound of the exhaust as the throttle is blipped during a downshift and the driver’s rush that occurs when the entry, apex and exit points of a turn are smoothly and swiftly crossed. It’s the beginning of a perfect lap. AutoInformed has an editorial philosophy that loves transportation machines of all kinds while promoting critical thinking about the future use of cars and trucks. Zino builds AutoInformed from his background in automotive journalism starting at Hearst Publishing in New York City on Motor and MotorTech Magazines and car testing where he reviewed hundreds of vehicles in his decade-long stint as the Detroit Bureau Chief of Road & Track magazine. Zino has also worked in Europe, and Asia – now the largest automotive market in the world with China at its center.
