There are likely many more smart phones than Volvos in Canada. Since 2010 it has been owned by the Geely Holding Group, a Chinese multinational automotive manufacturing company.

Today, Volvo Cars is launching Care by Volvo  in Canada. Volvo says that “with technology changing the very nature of what it means to own a car, it is embracing a new, streamlined approach to car ownership by offering its first subscription-based program” at  the 37 Volvo automobile retailers in Canada.

With a few clicks on a smartphone, Canadians can order  a new car in less than 10 minutes. The Care by Volvo subscription includes services such as winter tire installation and storage, 24/7 roadside assistance, and a concierge service that assists Care by Volvo   subscribers through every step of the process including coordinating delivery with their local Volvo retailer.

“Traditional models of ownership need to be challenged and that’s exactly what we’re doing with Care by Volvo,” says Alexander Lvovich, Managing Director, Volvo Car Canada Ltd.

The first two cars available in Canada through the Care by Volvo subscription are the all-new Volvo V60 luxury estate (station wagon Yankee) with “distinctive styling and design,” and the all-new Volvo S60 sports sedan, “offering dynamic performance and intuitive technology.” Subscription pricing starts at C$949 plus tax per month. He is past president of The International Motor Press Assn, the Detroit Press Club, founding member and first President of the Automotive Press Assn. Above all, decades after he first drove a car, Zino still revels in the sound of the exhaust as the throttle is blipped during a downshift and the driver’s rush that occurs when the entry, apex and exit points of a turn are smoothly and swiftly crossed. It’s the beginning of a perfect lap. AutoInformed has an editorial philosophy that loves transportation machines of all kinds while promoting critical thinking about the future use of cars and trucks. Zino builds AutoInformed from his background in automotive journalism starting at Hearst Publishing in New York City on Motor and MotorTech Magazines and car testing where he reviewed hundreds of vehicles in his decade-long stint as the Detroit Bureau Chief of Road & Track magazine. Zino has also worked in Europe, and Asia – now the largest automotive market in the world with China at its center.
