Volkswagen Recall Active on Jetta Sedans for Burning People

Volkswagen has also issued a stop sale for Jetta sedans in dealer inventory until the optional stainless steel exhaust tips are removed.

A Volkswagen recall is now underway in the United States on almost 33,000 Jetta sedans because the stainless steal exhaust tips extended too far, resulting in complaints from customers that they are being burned. These port-installed exhaust tips extend beyond the original length of the factory installed exhaust system.

Volkswagen received the first complaints of burns back in July, according to a required filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). 

Volkswagen has also issued a stop sale for 2011-2012 Jetta sedans in dealer inventory until the optional stainless steel exhaust tips are removed. Dealers will receive a replacement Monroney label for each affected vehicle. Jetta GLI models are not included in the safety recall. Customers will be notified by November, Volkswagen said.
