Volvo Car USA Recalls all 2023 Models for Software Bug

Volvo Car USA is recalling all 2023 S60, V60, V60CC, V90CC, XC60, XC90, XC40, and C40 vehicles because of a computer code error the Brake Control Module 2 (BCM2) may cause a loss of  the Antilock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and the traction control system. A certain diagnostic test case that checks the grounding may put the BCM2 in a faulty state potentially resulting in a loss of brake support functions.

Volvo will release an over-the-air (OTA) BCM2 software update, free of charge as required by US safety regulations. Owner notification letters – more than 27,000 Volvos affected – are expected to be mailed 15 March  2023. NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V012000. Continental Automotive Technologies suppliers the BCM2.

The customer may experience a hard/stiff brake pedal and potential loss of brake support functions such as:

  • Brake-by-wire.
  • ABS, ESC, and traction control.
  • ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control), Pilot assist and OPD (One pedal drive)
  • All active safety and city safety functions described in the user manual that involve braking
