GMC and EarthCruiser Overland Vehicles are working on  the future of overlanding with a product development scheme that will provide zero-tailpipe-emissions to the overlanding field. The brands say they share a vision of an electric future, (marketing babble alert> “while inspiring customers to get out and see all that the world has to offer.”

GMC claims that by working with EarthCruiser’s research and design division, and informed by its extensive experience in the field, GMC will produce a next-generation “upfit for electric vehicles that will be integrated onto the HUMMER EV Pickup.” In brief, here comes more premium-priced trucks.

“GMC has long been a leader in professional-grade trucks with 100-plus years of uncompromising pickup capability, luxury and driver control,” claimed Josh Tavel, GM executive chief engineer, Battery Electric Trucks. “We had an instant connection with EarthCruiser — a leader in the overland community — and their similar vision to accelerate the zero-tailpipe-emissions future. EarthCruiser products have proven their performance in environments around the world and we’re excited to join them on this next chapter of adventure and exploration.”

In 2019, GMC introduced the AT4 sub-brand, followed by the launch of the Sierra AT4X in 2022. GMC then introduced its advanced off-road midsize truck with the Canyon AT4X1. In 2020, the GMC revealed the HUMMER EV Pickup, an all-electric performance truck, followed by the HUMMER EV SUV in 20212. GMC  has since debuted the Sierra EV Denali3, making it the only brand so far with three all-electric truck offerings.

It’s the beginning of a perfect lap. AutoInformed has an editorial philosophy that loves transportation machines of all kinds while promoting critical thinking about the future use of cars and trucks. Zino builds AutoInformed from his background in automotive journalism starting at Hearst Publishing in New York City on Motor and MotorTech Magazines and car testing where he reviewed hundreds of vehicles in his decade-long stint as the Detroit Bureau Chief of Road & Track magazine.
