A bad batch of hinges with weak metal is the cause of the Corvette Coupe hatch recall.

A Chevrolet Corvette recall is now active for 2011-2012 Chevrolet Corvette coupe models, for failing to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 206, “door locks and door retention components.”

The rear hatch on Corvette Coupes made from 24 January 2011 through 1 September 2011 could separate in a crash, thereby increasing the risk of injury. A stop sale is in place.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace both rear hatch hinges free of charge as is required by the National Highway traffic Safety Administration. The safety recall is underway now. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 about recall campaign number 11258. Owners may also contact the NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327 or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

It’s the beginning of a perfect lap. AutoInformed has an editorial philosophy that loves transportation machines of all kinds while promoting critical thinking about the future use of cars and trucks. Zino builds AutoInformed from his background in automotive journalism starting at Hearst Publishing in New York City on Motor and MotorTech Magazines and car testing where he reviewed hundreds of vehicles in his decade-long stint as the Detroit Bureau Chief of Road & Track magazine.
