Ford Recalls Focus for Defective Windshield Wipers

Ford dealers have been told to stop selling or demonstrating the cars until the wiring harness is cleaned or repaired.

Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 140,000 Focus compact cars because the windshield wipers can fail. Deliveries of the new car have also been halted. Model year 2012 Focus cars were built at the Michigan Assembly Plant without a proper seal on the wiring harness for the passenger-side windshield wiper motor.

Corrosion can ensue, causing the windshield wipers to operate sporadically or fail completely, Ford said in the required safety defect filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The supplier of the harness was not named in the documentation. Dealers have been told to stop selling or demonstrating the cars until the wiring harness is inspected, cleaned or repaired.
