More GM Recalls Including Ignition Switches, Airbags, Brakes
The recall crisis at GM continued today with the announcement of six more serious safety defects covering a quarter of a million vehicles. This follows the revelation this week that almost 190,000 GM vehicles will have to be parked outside because they can self-immolate. The catch here is that redesigned power window switches that can prevent fires will not be available until October. Continue reading

More GM Recalls on 717,950 Newer Vehicles
GM has today recalled almost three quarters of a million late-model vehicles for various safety defects. If there is any good news in the latest safety defects, it is they do not involve deadly ignition switches. Instead, seats, turn signals, and power steering, suspension failures leading to steering loss, and defective airbags are the latest safety defects. Continue reading

Headliner Fires under NHTSA Probe Forces Huge Dodge Durango, Jeep Grand Cherokee Recall

Subaru Recalls 660,000 Vehicles for Rusting Brake Lines
Subaru, popular in snow belt states, says that models currently or formerly registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia are recalled. Salt water could splash on the brake lines through a gap in the fuel tank protector, resulting in excessive corrosion of the brake lines. Continue reading
GM Recalls Another 8.5 Million Vehicles for 6 Safety Defects. $1.2 Billion Charge coming
GM said it expects to take a charge of up to approximately $1.2 billion in Q2 for the cost of recall-related repairs announced in the quarter. This amount includes a previously disclosed $700 million charge for recalls already announced during the quarter. Continue reading

Ford Recall, Stop Sale 2014 F-150 Pickups – Total Steering Loss
The best-selling model in the U.S. cannot be sold because of a safety recall on 2014 F-150 pickup trucks as a result of defective steering. Ford told NHTSA that it is expanding a previous recall because a sensor for the electronic power steering assist is improperly installed by supplier Nexsteer. A total loss of steering is possible. NHTSA Fines GM a Paltry $35 Million for Ignition Switch Fiasco
GM also faces billions in criminal penalties. Recently Toyota Motor agreed to pay a $1.2 billion fine in a controversial plea agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice whereby Toyota Motor Corporation admits to lying to consumers and U.S. safety regulators about unintended acceleration in its cars during the fall of 2009 and early 2010.
