GM’s Ten Grooviest EV Charging Destinations?

The folks at General Motors (NYSE: GM) are celebrating President Eisenhower’s Interstate Highway System and the road trips that resulted as a central U.S. pastime. This, it’s thought, continues with the rise of electric vehicles.* [However since we are celebrating the 1950s, it’s curious that Hillside Memorial Park and Forest Lawn Memorial Park, which have Dinah Shore memorials, are not on the list. Nor is the highway between Rancho Mirage and Cathedral City – Dinah Shore Drive – recommended. You can see the USA in the 2027 Chevy Bolt when it returns.  – AutoCrat.]

“The country’s expanding public DC fast charging infrastructure has opened new possibilities for the EV road trip. GM EV drivers have access to more than 250,000 public chargers across North America. GM’s investments in Pilot Flying J, EVgo, ChargePoint and IONNA have increased public charging to more than 4533 stalls at 844 sites in key metropolitan areas and along major highway travel corridors across the U.S.,” GM said today in a release.

What follows are GM’s opinions – not necessarily AutoInformed’s – of  “some of the coolest charging spots around the country. Places where you can have an adventure within your adventure,” as GM said.

Electrify America: Georgetown, Washington, DC

  • “Our nation’s capital is uniquely beautiful, and historic Georgetown, with its cobblestone streets and late 1700s/early 1800s architecture, is particularly gorgeous. Stop at Electrify America’s DC fast charging station near Georgetown and go for a sightseeing walk throughout the neighborhood, or for a stroll along the Potomac.”

EVgo: Sacramento, California

  • “This EVgo station shares a parking lot with some truly eclectic storefronts, including paintball gear and anime souvenir shops. There’s also an art studio where you can tap into your creative potential and make ceramics, sculptures, and more.”

IONNA Rechargery: Apex, North Carolina

  • “IONNA’s DC fast-charging station in Apex, North Carolina is walking distance to so much: a quaint downtown, a dog park, and a skate park. Though, with ultrafast DC charging speeds, you might not have enough time to enjoy the surrounding area.”

Rocky Mountain Power powered by Electrify America: Moab, Utah

  • “Home of Arches National Park, Moab has long been a mecca for off-roaders and hikers alike. Electrify America has a handful of DC fast chargers near the Moab Mountains, with trailheads, a boat launch, and camping nearby. It may just be one of the most striking places to charge an EV in the world.”

Pilot Travel Center: Chemult, Oregon

  • “Thanks to GM Energy’s collaboration with Pilot Company and EVgo, you can charge your EV at a station offering everything you need during a break from the road. The station in Chemult, Oregon, near Crater Lake, is particularly great as it’s near beautiful hiking trails.”

EVgo: East St. Louis, Illinois

  • “The Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri has long been called the “gateway to the West,” and it’s been a milestone on many an American road trip. Just on the eastern side of the Mississippi river in Illinois, you can charge at an EVgo station with a view of the Arch.”

IONNA at Wawa: Daytona Beach, Florid

  • “Home of the Daytona 500 and the Rolex 24 hours, the Daytona International Speedway is a pilgrimage for so many motorsports fans. Across the street is an IONNA fast-charging station at a Wawa located in a huge modern shopping center. At the track, you can head to the Motorsports Hall of Fame to see priceless pieces of American racing history or take a tour of the impressive facility.”

ChargePoint: Austin, Texas

  • “The capital of Texas is a city unlike any other. This ChargePoint location on, appropriately, Electric Drive is walking distance to so much. There’s a nearby park with walking and biking trails, and you’re also not far from the bustle of Downtown Austin. A particular highlight is the nearby Congress Avenue Bridge, home to the largest urban bat colony in the country.”

ChargePoint: Jackson, Wyoming

  • “The Jackson Hole valley in Wyoming is one of America’s premiere ski areas. Conveniently located in the town of Jackson is a charging station that’s not only walking distance to the slopes, but also a rodeo that’s held throughout the summer. A perfect stop on your way to either the Grand Teton or Yellowstone National Parks.”

EVgo: Portland, Maine

  • “Right in the heart of one of New England’s most charming cities, this fast charger is perfectly located near museums, coffee shops, and some of the best places to get a lobster roll. This is the Northeast at its finest.”
