Kia America (Kia) is recalling ~463,000 2020-2024 Telluride vehicles.* The front power-seat motor may overheat due to a stuck power-seat slide knob or an improper repair of NHTSA recall 24V407. This safety defect can cause a fire while a Telluride is parked or when driving.
“Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete,” Kia said in the mandatory safety defect filing that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) made public this morning.
Dealers will install an electronic fuse assembly, free of charge as required by Federal Safety Regulations.. Owner notification letters are not expected to be mailed until 13 August 2026. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia’s number for this recall is SC374. This recall replaces NHTSA recall number 24V407. Vehicles already repaired under the previous recall will need to have the new remedy completed. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning 17 July 2026.
Kia is also recalling eight 2022-2024 EV6 and 2024 EV9 vehicles. The high voltage battery cells may contain misaligned electrodes, which can lead to a fire while parked or driving. Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures and limit their charge to a maximum of 80% until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the high voltage battery system assembly, free of charge as required by Federal Safety regulations. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed 7 August 7, 2026. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia’s number for this recall is SC375. - September 2, 2025 – December 10, 2025: Kia NA Safety Office presents findings to Kia HQ and requests further evaluation of potential conditions for seat switch damage. Kia NA Safety Office, Kia HQ, and Kia Georgia evaluate new potential conditions for seat switch damage. Preliminary findings indicate if occupant strikes the seat slide knob when entering vehicle, twisting forces may also result in a dislodged or misaligned seat switch.
- December 11, 2025 – June 5, 2026: Kia NA Safety Office continues to monitor and investigate incidents on a part and vehicle level to understand the different conditions for potential seat switch damage.
- June 15 – June 25, 2026: Kia NA Safety conducts field data analysis and identifies 18 unique incidents (7 localized seat / under seat fires, 11 localized melting of seat motor) [dates of receipt 10/17/2024—4/24/2026]. Kia NA Safety Office decides to recall the 2020-2024MY Telluride vehicles previously recalled under 24V407. No injuries, crashes or fatalities.
