Michelin Recalls Popular Pickup Truck and SUV Tires

Michelin Tire is recalling some of its most popular light truck tires because they can blow out without warning. Affected are 100,000 LTX M/S2, Michelin X Radial LT2 and Michelin Latitude Touring tires sold in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

No deaths, injuries or accidents have been reported in connection with the recalled tires, according to the required and embarrassing NHTSA filing from the French company usually known for its fastidious quality control procedures. Michelin said it has identified and fixed the issue that prompted the recall without proving details.

Michelin also said it is recalling 100,000 tires to retrieve what it says is an estimated 2,500 tires that could have partial or full sidewall perforations, which could cause them to experience sudden loss of air pressure.

Michelin will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace any affected tires free of charge as required by U.S. safety regulations. The recall will begin by the end of July 2013. Owners may contact Michelin Consumer Care at 1-855-851-4951. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to www.safercar.gov.

It’s the beginning of a perfect lap. AutoInformed has an editorial philosophy that loves transportation machines of all kinds while promoting critical thinking about the future use of cars and trucks. Zino builds AutoInformed from his background in automotive journalism starting at Hearst Publishing in New York City on Motor and MotorTech Magazines and car testing where he reviewed hundreds of vehicles in his decade-long stint as the Detroit Bureau Chief of Road & Track magazine.
