Volkswagen America Launches Best SUV Warranty

AutoInformed.com on Volkswagen Atlas Crossover SUV Warrantyr WarrantyWhen the all-new 2018 Volkswagen Atlas and Volkswagen Tiguan arrive in dealerships during the next few months, they will carry the best transferable bumper-to-bumper warranty among SUVs in America, Volkswagen said today.

It is offering a six-year or 72,000-mile (whichever occurs first) New Vehicle Limited Warranty, with coverage that’s transferable beyond the first owner. This is an expensive – post Dieselgate – image building program.

Barring a competitive response (unlikely, given the financial risk?), the six-year/72,000-mile coverage includes the powertrain for engines, transmissions and the optional 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. Major competitors to Atlas, namely Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander and Nissan Pathfinder, have a three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain coverage.

Competitors to the Tiguan also offer a three-year/36,000-mile coverage with a five-year or 60,000-mile powertrain coverage, the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, and Toyota RAV4.

“We specifically designed and built the all-new Atlas and Tiguan for American customers. This warranty further addresses the needs of American buyers head-on,” said Hinrich J. Woebcken, President and Chief Executive Officer of Volkswagen Group of America.

The coverage allows all its sections to be transferred to subsequent owners up to 6 years or 72,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Hyundai and Kia offer five-year/60,000-mile coverage and a higher time and mileage limit on powertrain coverage, but if the vehicle is sold to a second owner, powertrain coverage is not transferable beyond five years or 60,000 miles from the date it was first sold new.

It’s the beginning of a perfect lap. AutoInformed has an editorial philosophy that loves transportation machines of all kinds while promoting critical thinking about the future use of cars and trucks. Zino builds AutoInformed from his background in automotive journalism starting at Hearst Publishing in New York City on Motor and MotorTech Magazines and car testing where he reviewed hundreds of vehicles in his decade-long stint as the Detroit Bureau Chief of Road & Track magazine.
