Volkswagen dealers will replace the win module free of charge as is required by U.S. law.
Volkswagen of America is recalling 12,612 Routan minivan models because the vehicles may experience inadvertent ignition key displacement from the run to accessory position while driving, causing the engine to shut off abruptly.
It is the same recall that was announced by Chrysler last week because a Mexican-built part from Continental apparently is defective. Chrysler supplies Routan minivans to Volkswagen.
Dealers will replace the win module free of charge as is required by U.S. law. The safety recall is expected to begin during April 2011. Owners may contact Volkswagen at 1-800-822-8987 about Volkswagen safety recall no. 28G1/U8.
