2022 Ford Super Duty Pickup Gets 12-Inch Screen

Ford Truck is adding an optional 12-inch touch screen plus cloud-connected SYNC 4 with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and navigation to a mildly tweaked 2022 F-Series Super Duty pickup scheduled to be on sale this summer. New colors are available inside and out.

Carrying over, so to speak, are what Ford claims is the highest available payload, and maximum conventional and fifth-wheel towing. AutoInformed guesstimates the price range won’t be best in the value class at, oh,  $35,000 to $60,000.

The new, landscape-oriented 12-inch center touch screen with SYNC^®4 is standard on Lariat and above models, with physical controls below for quick access to commonly used functions. Occupants can easily multitask functions by splitting the screen to see navigation, music, truck features and the new digital owner’s manual.

With a claimed doubling in the computing power of the previous-generation system, all-new SYNC 4 can wirelessly connect smartphones without an USB cord for integration of the Apple or Android apps, as well as SYNC AppLink^. Customers can interact with the truck using a voice control to ask for points of interest or delays along a route. SYNC voice control and a 4.2-inch center screen remains standard on the XL series trucks with SYNC 3 available while an 8-inch center touch screen and SYNC 3 are standard on XLT.

The current-gen Super Duty has an optional 7.3-liter V8 with the most gas horsepower and torque – 430 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque. The optional third-generation 6.7-liter diesel V8 delivers 1,050 lb.-ft. of torque and 475 horsepower. Super Duty’s maximum gooseneck towing of up to 37,000 pounds, maximum fifth-wheel towing of 32,500 pounds, maximum conventional towing of 24,200 pounds and maximum payload capacity of 7,850 pounds. All of the preceding are claimed to be best-in-class, defined as full-size pickups over 8,500 pounds GVWR.
