US New Vehicle Sales in May Forecast as Record Setting. Global Sales are Another Matter Entirely
Total new-vehicle sales for May 2021, including retail and non-retail transactions, are projected to reach 1,555,600, a 39.6% increase from May 2020 and a 1.9% decrease from May 2019. The seasonally adjusted annualized rate (SAAR) for total new-vehicle sales is expected to be 16.7 million units, up 4.7 million units from 2020 but down 0.7 million units from 2019. The overall sales results for manufacturers will be mixed. Some are experiencing greater production problems because of semiconductor shortage. This will hurt, perhaps materially in the financial sense, various manufacturers monthly sales and profit performance for May and the months to come. Continue reading
Honda Motor Posts FY 2021 Operating Profit of ¥660.2 Billion
Consolidated profit for the year attributable to owners of the parent company faced a year-on-year increase that amounted to 657.4 billion yen, due also to an increase in the share of profit of investments accounted for using the equity method. Continue reading

During a call to media and investors GM said it confident in its full-year 2021 guidance outlined earlier this year as it works to manage through the semiconductor shortage, which is impacting all automakers globally. Kia April Global Sales Recovery from Covid Contraction

Hyundai Motor America Posts Record April 2021 Sales
Hyundai Motor America reported total April sales of 77,523 units, a 128% increase compared with April 2020. This is consistent with other makers’ results since last April a Fool was in the White House promoting bleach as a Covid cure as the pandemic increased in severity with disastrous social, employment and economic consequences. FY2021 Toyota Sales, Production Drop Less than 10%
Toyota’s global sales and production have both been up year-on-year since September 2020, enabling Toyota to limit the year-on-year decline in sales and production to less than -10% in FY2021 ending 31 March 2021. Mustang – World’s Best-Selling Sports Car, Sports Coupe Titles
The United States remains the strongest global market for Mustang, representing ~75% of total sales. Texas (8,600 vehicles), California (6,200 vehicles) and Florida (5,864 vehicles) remain the top markets. Covid Curse – EU Sales Drop 19% in February, -22% YTD
With 771,486 units registered across the EU region, according to ACEA, this marked the lowest February total on record since 2013. All four major EU markets recorded losses last month. Volvo Cars Posts a +29% Global Sales Increase in 2021
In China, Volvo Cars sold 29,243 cars in the first two months of the year, up 160.6% year-on-year, as the company managed to more than recover lost sales due to Covid-19 shutdowns last year.
