Hyundai Motor America is recalling ~600 Korean-made 2025 model Hyundai Palisade SUVs. An insufficient seal from Korean supplier MNEX on the controller for the electric oil pump may allow moisture to accumulate in the printed circuit board, which can cause an electrical short circuit and result in a fire. Owners are advised to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until the recall remedy is completed.

“The tooling used for sealing the EOP controller housing during supplier manufacturing contained a damaged spring,” Hyundai told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which made this mandatory recall filing public this morning. Drivers may perceive a burning/melting odor or the illumination of Malfunction Indicator Light.

Chronology

  • On 21 March 2025, the North America Safety Decision Authority (NASO) was notified by Hyundai Motor Corporation (HMC) of a potential issue involving the electric oil pump (EOP) from Korean supplier MNEX installed on a model year 2025 Palisade produced in Ulsan. NASO began gathering and reviewing market information to identify any reports of the condition occurring in vehicles sold in the U.S. and Canada.
  • On 26 March 2025, NASO received updated information from HMC regarding their investigation into root cause. Based on a review of manufacturing records provided by the supplier, both HMC and MNEX identified a range of suspect EOP assemblies that may have been produced with equipment containing a damaged spring, adversely affecting the hermetic sealing of the housing containing the EOP controller. HMC and NASO continued their investigation into suspected vehicles potentially equipped with suspected EOP units during assembly.
  • On 23 April 2025, NASO received updated affected vehicle production range from HMC, confirming involved vehicles located in the U.S. NASO continued its investigation.
  • On 28 April 2025, based on HMC’s information and NASO investigation results, decided to conduct a safety recall of all affected model year 2025 Hyundai Palisade vehicles in the U.S. As of the date of this filing, Hyundai has not received any reports of incidents involving crashes, fires, or fatalities from affected vehicles in the U.S. or Canadian markets.

Owner notification letters are not expected to be mailed until 4 July 2025, according to the filing, which is oblivious to the U.S. Federal holiday when the Post Office is closed.

Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai’s number for this recall is 278. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to www.nhtsa.gov about NHTSA recall 25V291 or 25V-291.
